Yesterday, I was one of four speakers (alongside Google, the Guardian and Canongate books) at a great Arts Council-funded event for publishers and librarians. Each of us highlighted a digital tool or platform that the audience could leverage to improve, or simplify, their programme of work. We're always happy to talk about Skype in the classroom–primarily, because it really is a game-changing platform that inspires educators  and their students from around the world. 

We're looking for an experienced person to work as a technical producer on a number of projects. Our ideal would be someone who has worked as a product manager at a start-up that used Agile methodologies to deliver excellent product. 

We were five years old at the weekend, which seems like a good moment to pause and look back at what we've learnt.

Yesterday a few of us trundled down to see Tim speak at Internet Week's 'Brilliant Lectures' as part of Poke's Creative Day at Hackney House. Tim shared the stage with Mr Bingo, Tom Roope of RumpusRoom and it was compered by Simon Waterfall. It was my first trip to Hackney House, a collaboration between London Borough of Hackney and UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) and private sponsorship that is taking place during the Olympics. Its purpose is to showcase some of the vibrant, creative and entrepreneurial spirit that lives in Hackney and the East End.

We launched Picle (currently only for iPhone) at SXSW back in March for this year's South by South West Interactive. Picle adds sound to iPhone photography, allowing you to capture a little audio clip when you take a photo. This photo-plus-sound clip is called a 'Picle', and the app makes it quick and simple to lace individual Picles together into 'Stories'. We are coming to the end of the first version of Picle and we are currently working on version 2.0. 

Every designer has stories of the design that got away. The version that the client should have chosen or the version that was turned down because the client’s partner didn’t like purple... These are emotional reasons for a design not succeeding though. Here, I want to talk about the rational reasons behind work being rejected.

We're looking for someone's who graduating or taking a year out for work experience. Whilst it is a paid placement, we're not looking for someone to help out with our work. You'll be here to create something new.

We'll be teaming you up with a developer intern to build a new product, application and/or service. The two of you will be jointly responsible for coming up with an idea and then making it real. We're hoping you're going to create something exciting, transformational, a marriage of creativity and technology, maybe something that makes us see the world in a new way... Everything is up for grabs, the only limit is time.

You'll be involved at every stage, from workshops and idea creation to prototyping and high-fidelity designs. We see design as a mix of thinking, collaborating and learning - being comfortable explaining your work and visualising your ideas using pen and paper is just as important (if not more so) as being able to use Photoshop and Illustrator.

We are really pleased to announce that Film 4 are using Picle as a submission method for their ‘Scene Stealers’ competition.

Scene Stealers is a competition that challenges aspiring filmmakers to recreate iconic moments from Film 4s 30-year film history, a new creative talent search launched under Film 4s innovation banner Film4.0. 

We love working on Skype in the classroom and we're always looking for ways to enhance the service for our users. Recently, we released functionality that enabled teachers to login with their Facebook or Twitter credentials, as well as their Skype ID, but sometimes the challenge isn't about new functionality, but raising awareness and simply telling the story of Skype in the classroom.
