Valor Econômico is Brazil’s largest financial newspaper
A longstanding print publication navigating the transition from print-only to print, online and mobile
For ten years, Valor Econômico has been Brazil’s biggest financial newspaper. It is highly regarded for its reputation and the quality of its journalism, but like most newspapers, it faces huge challenges as the publishing landscape shifts to digital.
Valor approached us for help in navigating the transition from print-only to print, online and mobile. The challenge was to create new blended digital revenue streams without cannibalising the organisation’s existing sales from print subscriptions and advertising sales and to drive a big cultural change that cut across editorial, design and technology.
Made by Many is now engaged in three closely related development projects: a complete redesign of the website with a new information architecture that incorporates a range of subscription models and new data services; a change programme to transform editorial process and culture from print only to integrated web-first, print, mobile and real time news production; and defining new premium services for financial professionals and private investors.
Our work with Valor is introducing more agile design and development processes and new commercial opportunities
How it all went
The website redesign is now completed and will be implemented on the Drupal CMS by a local team over the coming months. We’re working with Valor to introduce new, more agile design and development processes that include a programme for customer development with regular user workshops and Q&A sessions. We’ve initiated a project to redefine editorial workflows, organisation and shift patterns and we’re investigating new commercial opportunities in rich, social news gathering and opinion forming.
